Start With Yourself
You probably already know a lot of facts about yourself and other close family
members. Your first step should be to record this information. Use the three
basic forms described below to record what you already know.
Ancestral Chart
The Ancestral Chart shows an overall view of your whole ancestry. The chart has
blank spaces to add four or five generations of ancestors from whom the person
at the top of the chart is directly descended. When you are working with more
distant relations, this helps to understand where each person fits into your
family tree. The "Visual Family Tree" program program uses the
information you entered to create a neatly printed ancestral chart that shows
four generations of ancestors from whom the person is directly descended.

Family Group Record
The Family Group Record is a detailed record of one family. It has blank spaces
to add the parents, grandparents, and children for the family, and the most
important dates and details for each person. Each family on the Ancestral Chart
should have a corresponding Family Group Record. The "Visual Family
Tree" computer program uses the information you entered to create a neatly
printed Family Group filled in form for each family you select.

Personal Record
The Personal Record is a detailed record of just one person. Use it to record
extensive information for each person. It has blank spaces to add the parents,
spouses and children and the most important dates and details. The "Visual
Family Tree" computer program uses the information you entered to create a
neatly printed Personal Record form for each person you select.
